LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Reader:

As you know, Broad Recognition has provided incisive and thought-provoking feminist coverage of  current events, arts, and politics for Yale students and others through our online magazine since 2009. In our short history, thousands of readers have been affected by our reporting and commentary, and we feel our magazine is becoming more and more pertinent to the conversations happening here at Yale and in the national media.

The events of this year alone demonstrate the importance of independent feminist journalism. In 2011, Congress attempted to defund Planned Parenthood, Yale was subject to a Title IX investigation and was found out of compliance with the Clery Act, and the Supreme Court placed the rights of corporations above those of female employees in Wal-Mart v. Dukes. Our editors have appeared on BBC, the Today Show, Good Morning America, American Morning, and CNN. Our articles and opinions have been remediated on Slate, Huffington Post, Salon, and NPR.

At Broad Recognition, we realize that in order to provide our readers with the best resource possible, we must develop and update the appearance and features available on our webpage. Our current site simply does not have the capacity to host as many videos and articles as we would like. Because of the increasing need for feminist news coverage, Broad Recognition has committed to expanding our website so that we may fully serve the needs of our community and our readers.

In order to fulfill our mission, we must rebuild our website from the ground up, and we need your help. Please consider making a donation to the Broad Recognition website fund. The money raised will go toward much-needed structural changes, most importantly the design and construction of our new site. With this new page, we will have the capacity to upload more multimedia content, and support a higher number of readers. We will also be able to remove our advertisements in order to provide our readers with a less cluttered browsing experience.

Donations of all sizes are needed and appreciated. Think about the importance of Broad Recognition‘s work, and consider the positive impact a new website will have for our community. Please, send your donation to Broad Recognition through http://www.broadrecognition.com/support-us/ or visiting our Paypal site, so we may expand our outreach and continue to improve our publication.

Sincerely,

Hannah Zeavin
